He and most of the Crows were branded terrorists by both the OCU and USN for attacking Longrivers, and PMO for their service in Spirit of Huffman but by then, Frederick Lancaster had already exposed the truth behind Zaftra and the Second Huffman Conflict. He then personally led the raid on Longrivers Island, the location of Sakata's chief facility in Huffman there Royd managed to destroy the S-Device prototype, which killed Dirscoll permanently, by defeating the Mir Orlen. Royd was horrified to learn that Karen was not murdered by Driscoll, but mortally wounded, captured, and was used as a test subject for the B-Device utilized in Raven.ĭuring the investigation, Royd managed to track down, defeat, and mortally wound Driscoll in combat, believing he had killed the man who had taken Karen from him. They learned that Sakata Industries, with the backing of Zaftra, had been using human test subjects in order to create a system known as the "B-Device" that would allow Wanzers to function autonomously via Brain to Computer interfaces. Mizette Brown told them in disturbing detail. The Crows would be convinced to join the Spirit of Huffman by Royd's interest of uncovering the truth behind the Larcus Incident and Zaftra's hidden involvement in the war that Dr. Royd's distrust of the PMO would run very deep and bring his loyalty to his homeland to a breaking point. When the Republic of Zaftra's Peace Mediation Organization (PMO) intervened and managed to end the war peacefully after operation Eagle Tears, Royd was unconvinced of their motives and one of the first to believe there was something going on behind the scenes. Throughout the Second Huffman Conflict, he led the Crows to many impressive victories over the USN including defeating Hell's Wall, helping retake Freedom City, and the destruction of Morgan Fortress later in the war. He joined in the hopes of getting revenge on Driscoll and learning the truth behind Karen's death. In 2091, Royd was recruited by Olson to join and lead an OCU mercenary unit known as the Canyon Crows. Royd decides to stay on Huffman and later becomes an arena fighter, gaining the nickname "Hellspawn" and with little will to live while Ryuji would operate as a mercenary. Royd and his unit are listed as MIA and are all discharged from the OCU army. Driscoll and his unit destroy the factory (not USN owned but actually owned by the Nirvana Institute), with the OCU being thoroughly framed for the attack. Little did they know that the mission was a trap and Karen is seemingly killed by a USN soldier named Driscoll. With tensions rising between the OCU and USN largely as a result of The Vampires and other mercenaries making proxy war between the super conglomerates the squad was sent to perform reconnaissance on a USN factory in the Larcus District of Huffman Island. On Huffman, he met Ryuji Sakata, whom he befriended, and Karen Meure, who falls in love with Royd and the two later become engaged in the winter. He was assigned to lead a unit on Huffman Island in 2089 with orders to patrol the Mail River Border between the OCU and USN territory. He was a skilled Wanzer pilot despite his young age, as noted by Glen Duval. While in the military, he quickly climbed the ranks and eventually was promoted to the rank of Captain. Coming from a middle-class family, Royd enlisted in the O.C.U.
